Activities of Daily Living

Activities of daily living include basic everyday tasks we do to take care of ourselves. Occupational therapy can help you regain, improve, or maintain independence in all self-care tasks.

This includes:

  • Dressing

  • Bathing

  • Hygiene

  • Toileting

  • Home Management

  • Cooking

  • Shopping

  • Self-feeding

How Can Occupational Therapy Help?

Your occupational therapist will begin by conducting an evaluation to determine what aspects of your daily activities are challenging. Therapy sessions will then be tailored to meet your specific needs and may focus on the following to help improve function:

  • Fine motor skills

  • Gross motor skills

  • Adaptive equipment training

  • Balance

  • Coordination

  • Strength

  • Ability to sequence steps of an activity

  • Attention to task
